Morden Hall Alpacas run two types of courses for alpaca owners or those interested in alpacas. ntroductory courses are aimed at new breeders or people thinking of buying alpacas. We also run a new handling techniques and husbandry course.
Handling techniques and husbandry courses
This course provides information on:
- Handling your alpacas
- Training and leading you alpacas
- Toe trimming, administering injections and other husbandry tasks without causing stress to the animal
Introductory courses
This is a basic course designed by Peter and Janet Garner to provide an overview of alpaca ownership.
We include information on:
- The alpaca enterprise in the UK
- Some financial aspects
- Selecting your alpacas
- Basic husbandry
- Handling and training your alpaca
- The value of your alpaca fleece
- Breeding alpacas
- The show ring
When?
- Handling techniques and husbandry course: Saturday 8 March
- Introductory course: Saturday 12 April
Where?
Morden Hall, Guilden Morden, Royston, Hertfordshire. We are located on the border between Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, about 10 minutes from the A505 that links Baldock and Royston.
How?
On both courses, a small part of the day is spent in our barn in classroom format, but the major part is spent with our animals gaining 'hands on' experience.
Why?
At Morden Hall Alpacas we believe in the welfare of our alpacas and in the future of the UK alpaca enterprise. What experience we have gained in the last ten years we are pleased to share with others.
How much?
We make just a nominal charge to cover our costs in running these courses. The current charge is £58.75 per course including VAT. Price includes all course notes and a sandwich lunch.
